What Plumbing Camera Inspections Are

Plumbing camera inspections are a technique used by professional plumbers to take a close look at the health of your plumbing and sewer system. During the inspection, a camera is guided into your drains to see what is going on inside.

At WaterSmart we use a specially designed waterproof camera that is attached to a long wire. It looks a lot like a plumbing or drain snake and can be easily navigated and directed inside and through all of your pipes and your sewer. Our professional camera will give a very accurate and clear picture of the inside of your pipes and it can pinpoint the exact location of any possible problems.

As the camera passes through your pipes, a video image is transmitted onto a screen. The images allow us to accurately assess the issue and offer you the right solution to fix your problem quickly and with as little disruption as possible.

Great Benefits of Plumbing Camera Inspections

Plumbing camera inspections allow your plumber to digitally record a visual inspection of your pipes and system to help determine the longevity of your pipes and if there are any potential problems, such as tree root obstructions, clogs, or damage to your pipes. Having an inspection done could also help you to:

Discover the State of the Plumbing When Purchasing a Home: Plumbing camera inspections can allow you to find out the state of the plumbing of a home that you are considering purchasing.

Find Potential Problems Sooner: Plumbing camera inspections can help you locate and determine a potential problem earlier than if you didn't have an inspection done. Early detection of a problem can save you money on repairs that may become much more costly if you allow the problem to go unchecked.

Find the Precise Location of the Problem: If your sewer pipes are backing up, a plumbing camera inspection can locate the source of the problem. The inspection camera can precisely pinpoint where the blockage or leaky pipe is.

Locate Leaks or Damage: Plumbing camera inspections can help you locate where a pipe might be leaking. It is difficult to determine exactly where a leak is happening especially if the damaged pipe is inside your walls. Knowing exactly where the leak is, means that you can get it repaired with little disruption to your walls.

This will help speed up any repairs that are necessary. Knowing exactly where the problem is means that you will know exactly where to dig to make the repair if it is in the sewer that is exiting your home. This means less disruption to your yard and a more cost-effective repair.

How Long do plumbing camera inspections take?

Plumbing camera inspections usually take about one hour to complete. It could take longer, however, if the location of the problem is unknown or if your plumber encounters a challenging problem.

Types of Problems Plumbing Camera Inspections Can Detect

Plumbing camera inspections can effectively locate the source of your plumbing issue and can point out useful information to help your plumber come up with the best solution. It can tell you:

  • The source of a blockage in your pipes or sewer

  • The reason your sewer is backing up

  • The location of buildups and blockages in your pipes or sewer

  • The precise location of a leak or damaged area in your pipes or sewer

  • The infiltration of tree roots into your pipes or sewer

  • If your drainage pipes are placed correctly to allow sewage to flow out of your home

Tree roots and settling can cause your pipes to move so that water can't flow out of your home. A sewer inspection can help detect this.
